Wendy Colonna & The Lazybones: Barefoot in Belgium (2011)

“Her warm and surprisingly unsentimental lyrics fit right into the easy groove that her Belgian band mates provide with the lilting ‘Forgive Me’”
Bluesbunny
“Her voice has both a richness of tone and an engaging cadence that makes her oh so easy on the ear.”

While on tour in Belgium, what started as late night jam sessions with local musicians ignited into a musical kismet thatdemanded to be recorded. After a career of creating albums as meticulously planned as a royal wedding Wendy let herself be swept away by a musical fling. The result is an album as comfortable and relaxed as a vacation romance, no plans, no expectations, just pure enjoyment.

With a sound adorned in American-roots traditions, Wendy Colonna’s signature songwriting and her throaty, sultry voice make her style unmistakable and contagious. On the strength of her powerful performing abilities and resonant voice she can swing from soul-shout gospel to front porch ballads, from empowering funky anthems to dark, swampy narratives.

Like a rock in hurricane, Wendy Colonna continues to move through the music business with the wind behind her, a force of nature that is consistent, strong and rich, like her spirit, pipes and her stories.

On “Barefoot in Belgium,” Wendy explores new territory, this time quite literally. While on tour in Belgium, what started as late night jam sessions with local musicians ignited into a musical kismet that demanded to be recorded. After a career of creating albums as meticulously planned as a royal wedding Wendy let herself be swept away by a musical fling – just two weeks from conception to the EP’s release. The result is an album as comfortable and relaxed as a vacation romance – no plans, no expectations, just pure enjoyment.
