I have been playing in Lubbock for over a decade and for at least seven years consecutively, I’ve been honored to play the Buddy Holly Center’s Summer Music Series. Hundreds of lovely people in the courtyard of such a wonderful museum commemorating Buddy Holly’s legacy! Such an honor and pleasure to play. For the last four years, I’ve followed that show with an intimate house concert at Hub City House Concerts hosted by Paul Johnson. This year, I had the great pleasure of meeting miss Norma DeWitt, an extraordinary soul and magnificent painter at Paul’s concert.

If you are unfamiliar with house concerts, there’s something special about them that’s a little different than a venue. The artist can see each audience member’s eyes. They can feel them. The container is smaller, more intimate and the vibe is a tiny bit more personal. The conversation during, between and after sets flows and people share more.

About two months after the house concert, Norma DeWitt wrote me to ask if she could paint a portrait of a photograph taken by Paul Fischer at my SXSW Love. On the Lawn Concert. Of course I said “Yes!”

She shared images of it on Facebook as she created it and generously offered me the option to purchase it affordably so I could sell it to raise money for my new album. I shared some early mixes with her and she was blown away! Even more inspired to create this beautiful, energetic painting! She’s been kind enough to help me with ordering professional quality prints and signing each one.
